New Zealand singer and songwriter Charlotte Johansen from New Plymouth has a small but well-crafted repertoire of original, acoustic ‘pop’ songs that, as she says, blend a sense of satire and everyday truth.
Charlotte Johansen has previously played supports for Dave Dobbyn and Shona Laing and playing WOMAD 2019 makes for a positive addition to her musical CV.
Charlotte subscribes to the WOMAD mantra that music helps us to accept each other and be encouraging of difference.
Her debut appearance on the Dell Stage was a family affair. Charlotte was accompanied by her husband Jon Postlethwaite on bass guitar and her sister Emily Upston on violin and piano .
Charlotte Johansen delivered a charming and captivating show that was received by a hushed and appreciative audience.
It was a spell-binding performance.
