Today on NZ Sporting History we speak to hockey player Anna Lawrence In her 12 years with the Black Sticks - five as captain - Anna played two Olympics, two World Cups, and won a bronze medal at the 1998 Commonwealth Games.
Regarded among the best in the world, she is credited with lifting the profile of women's hockey in New Zealand - clawing the team's ranking from 23rd in the world in 1995 to the top six.
Not to mention captaining the team to their first international medal in 1998.
