Today a handful of New Zealand's best composers received nominations for three major awards that will be presented at the APRA Silver Scrolls later this year.
These include the SOUNZ Contemporary Award and the APRAs for Best Original Music in a Feature Film and Best Original Music in a Series.
Karl Sölve Steven is a multi-genre artist and composer who has already won a number of APRAs over the years - and if you're a 90s baby, you'll surely know his band Supergroove.
This year he's a finalist for the feature film and series awards, with two nominations in each category. He's being recognised for his work on the films Uproar and Never Look Away, and the series' Testify and Black Coast Vanishings.
Karl speaks to Jesse about his approach to film composition.
