More delays for Carillon tower project

From Morning Report, 8:44 am on 15 November 2021

A 50 metre high tower with 70 tonnes of bells in it that presents a high earthquake risk in central Wellington, has been allowed to stay that way for up to six more years.

The long running project to fix the National War Memorial's Carillon tower has won more time under quake strengthening laws.

Phil Pennington reports.

Associate Minister of Culture and Heritage Kiri Allan said she's confident the Ministry will get the carillon strengthened by 2027, and has been told it could be well before that.
