A new season of Beale Street Caravan begins with the first programme featuring the annual Stax to the Max Festival held in Memphis. The festival celebrates the contribution Stax made to the South Memphis community known as 'Soulsville' that gave rise to one of the greatest legacies in American music. From the festival there are performances from The Mad Lads, Temprees, Toni Green and William Bell.
Also on show is guest contributor Robert Gordon with a series about the history of another Memphis institution, Hi Records.
