MetService has a severe weather watch for Coromandel Peninsula from 11am to 5pm, and for Bay of Plenty west of Te Puke from 11am to 7pm.
In other parts of the country, many people are expected to have a wet day, with patchy rain or drizzle expected for eastern areas from Gisborne all the way down to Dunedin.
But in the west and far south of the South Island, mainly fine weather is expected.
