Hīkoi to spend night in Huntly before continuing in morning

6:02 pm on 13 November 2024

The hīkoi is making its way to Huntly.

Speaking on behalf of the hīkoi organisers, Eru Kapa-Kingi thanked the haukainga for hosting them and apologised for being a bit late.

They were greeted warmly by haukainga, who thanked them for carrying on the called for Māori Unity, Kotahitanga, by the late Kiingi Tuheitia.

Mana whenua kaikorero Qiane Matata-Sipu gave an update on the status of the whenua.

She said despite what the minister of Māori development is saying, mana whenua only want one thing - hoki whenua mai - their land back.

Before leaving, hīkoi organisers and mana whenua planted some trees.

The hīkoi will rest in Huntly before moving onto Rotorua and eventually Wellington.
