Robyn Jaquiery
Robyn loves living in Te-Whanganui-a-Tara, where she’s spent most of her life. She’s been with RNZ Concert since 2008, producing shows and presenting Hymns on Sunday since 2014. Tuning in to the Hymns programme was a weekly tradition in the Jaquiery household, and Robyn says it felt quite an honour to find herself compiling and presenting something she'd listened to growing up.
Music has always been a big part of Robyn’s life – as a four-year-old, she’d pick out tunes and work out the chords herself. This began a lifelong love of the piano, and the music lessons that followed have led to many years as a church musician and a collaborative pianist for singers, choirs and instrumentalists. Robyn is also a piano tuner.
A stand-out memory of a concert experience for Robyn was Joaquín Rodrigo's well-loved Concierto de Aranjuez played by guitarist Christopher Parkening at Royal Festival Hall in the early 1990s.
“The performance was beautiful but the highlight for me came at the end of the concerto when an elderly man in the audience was helped onto the stage to take a bow: it was the composer himself! A great reminder that classical music is a living thing.”
