Megan Collins presents a series on the music of migrant New Zealanders.
In parts 1 and 2 Megan Collins explores the music of early European migrants to New Zealand, beginning with the stories of her own ancestors from the British Isles. They brought music with them to places such as Gabriel's Gully during the Otago gold rush.
The Cambodian wedding band of Mr Saman Sak is the focus of part 3, then in part 4 Collins talks to Pastor Kamu Tagaolo Wright and we hear the songs and traditions of the Samoan Methodist church.
Lastly, we hear the Iranian classical music of brothers Hamid and Shayan and get to understand some of the difficulties in transporting the instruments needed for this music to New Zealand.
