Julian Shaw is a trainee pipe organ builder with the South Island Organ Company in Timaru.
Earlier this year, he became the second recipient of an award from the Neil Stocker Memorial Fund.
Neil Stocker was the organ company’s first-ever apprentice, and was one of three men killed in the Christchurch Earthquake on 22 February 2011, while dismantling the pipe organ at Durham St Methodist Church.
RNZ Concert's Bryan Crump caught up with Julian to congratulate him on the award, which will be used to cover study costs related to his organ-building apprenticeship. He began by asking Julian if he was involved in the organ building industry at the time of the Christchurch Earthquake.
