The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra has launched details of some of its 2021 season.
The orchestra will be marking 50 years since Igor Stravinsky's death next year, including performances of The Soldier's Tale in collaboration with the Royal New Zealand Ballet, Petruschka, The Firebird and The Rite of Spring.
Some of this year’s cancelled concerts celebrating Beethoven’s 250th anniversary are being revived, as are plans to bring overseas conductors Marin Alsop and Vassily Petrenko to New Zealand (border restrictions allowing).
2021 will see more digital streaming from the orchestra, and a new approach to touring. Instead of flying in and out, there will be a new “festival” approach, where the NZSO will stay in a centre longer and also engage more with local communities.
Upbeat spoke with the NZSO’s Chief Executive Peter Biggs and Head of Artistic Planning Lucrecia Colominas.
