The Nauru government has confirmed it is tightening the rules for Australians and New Zealanders wanting to visit the country.
It says it has changed the procedures on visitor visas for Australians and New Zealanders, claiming some journalists have entered the country on false documentation.
Now it says anyone with a visitor's visa needs to re-apply at the Nauru consulate in Brisbane.
The government says people wanting to enter Nauru for legitimate work reasons can still travel on their current visas.
Two years ago Nauru brought in a US$5000 non refundable visa application fee for journalists after it had faced criticism over its involvement with Australia's controversial asylum seeker detention programme.
