The president of Kiribati, Taneti Mamau, says developments in renewable energy technologies over the past decade can bring huge benefits to the Pacific.
Mr Mamau was speaking at the International Renewable Energy Agency meeting this week in Abu Dhabi.
President Taneti Mamau said renewable energy technologies are not only tools for improving energy security and mitigating and adapting to climate change but he said the technologies can be seen as investments that can provide economic advantages to the Pacific.
Mr Mamau welcomed the decarbonisation efforts of members of the assembly and praised their support in the development of Kiribati's Integrated Energy Roadmap project.
The project launched in 2017, aims to improve efficiency and the use of alternative and renewable power sources like solar and coconut oil.
