New Zealand's Minister for Pacific Peoples hopes a new language innovation fund will encourage people to become multi-lingual as well as protect heritage languages of the Pacific.
This week Aupito William Sio announced the $US64,000 fund aimed at promoting Pacific languages in the country.
The fund is designed for community groups who will be able to apply for grants of up to $US3200 during a 12 month pilot period.
Aupito told Koro Vaka'uta the fund is part of the $US12.8m allocation for Pacific languages that was announced in the Budget.
