RNZ’s video-led current affairs programme 30 with Guyon Espiner is back
Released at 8:58 am on 25 September 2024
RNZ’s video-led current affairs programme 30 with Guyon Espiner is back, with the CEO of our biggest Australian Bank, Antonia Watson, in the hot seat for the first episode for season two, which launches at 3pm today.
A new episode is released every Wednesday at www.rnz.co.nz/guyon, on RNZ’s YouTube channel and TVNZ+, with highlights posted on social media and episodes also released on podcast apps and broadcast on RNZ National.
The first season saw Espiner interview notable people across the worlds of politics, film, sport and community activism, from boxer Mea Motu to lobbyist Jordan Williams to American futurist Peter Zeihan.
For season two, the programme continues to focus on interesting topics with interesting people.
Today’s episode: Guyon Espiner and ANZ Bank boss, Antonia Watson talk billion dollar bank profits and ask if there's enough competition in the market. Plus, Watson explains why a capital gains tax would be “politically extremely courageous” - but fair.
Espiner will talk to a former Trump advisor who says he’s unfit to be president and warns if you thought his first four years were bad,” a second four will be worse.”
Other confirmed guests include the author behind “The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck” Mark Manson, former elite solider Jamie Pennell and Prime Minister Christopher Luxon.
“The premise behind 30 is that we press go on the countdown clock as the interview begins and audiences can watch the entire conversation. What you see is what was said in the half hour with no cuts or edits.
“I think it works really well, and the length of the interview gets beyond sound bites into not only what people really think, but why they think it and what motivates them.”
Executive Editor John Hartevelt says launching a new current affairs programme that’s available on a broad range of platforms has been timely.
“Audiences can watch entire interviews on-demand every week, or they may be introduced to the programme through the snippets that pop up in their social media feeds.
“We were confident that there’d be an audience for this sort of well researched, long-form interview, and the first series showed us that being able to find it on whatever platforms people prefer worked well – radio listeners could listen there, podcast fans could listen on their favourite app, you can watch on the RNZ website, TVNZ+ or YouTube and of course the social media highlights.”
Watch 30 with Guyon Espiner on rnz.co.nz/guyon, TVNZ+ and YouTube on Wednesdays, via podcast platforms on Thursdays and listen at 5pm on Sunday on RNZ National.
