Reportedly there is growing interest in pigeon clubs around the world and pigeon influencers are hugely popular.

The Afternoons team decided to find out if that's the case in New Zealand.

1:25 The private hospital donating operations for the public 

Up to 70 people will have free surgery at a private Hamilton hospital next month. Braemar Charitable Trust, which owns Braemar Hospital, will fund the operations for people who can't access or afford healthcare. Surgeons and anesthetists are donating their time.

1:35 Doug Hendry's literary quiz

Over the next three days, the Escape Festival is on in Tauranga. It's the city's bi-ennial readers' and writers' festival. It is jam-packed with literary talks, panel discussions, workshops, and live performances.

This year there's been an addition to the schedule - evening talks Saturday that culminate in a literary quiz.

Joining Jesse is that man with the tough job of coming up with the questions - puzzle aficionado Doug Hendry.
