Before the mass shooting in Christchurch, before Parkland and Sandy Hook and the atrocity in Norway, there was Columbine. Frank DeAngelis was the principal of Columbine High School on April 20th, 1999 when two students went on a shooting rampage through the halls of the school, killing 12 students and a teacher. He says nothing is ever normal again after an experience like this, but there is hope.
DeAngelis has written a book about that day, the long road to recovery, and what he tells other schools and communities involved in the epidemic of mass shootings, They Call Me Mr. De: The Story of Columbine's Heart, Resilience, and Recovery.
