Good news for a group of Northland locals who fought to save a 700-hectare East Coast property from commerical development.
Native bush makes up 500 hectares of the Elliot Farm property, incuding manuka, kanuka, kauri and totara, while 200ha of farm land fronts the surf beach, Elliot Bay.
The Elliot family had allowed public access to the beach for the past nine decades, but recently decided to sell.
Jesse spoke to the chair of the Ipipiri Nature Conservancy Trust, Geoff Ricketts, who led the fundraising campaign.
