A language revitalisation expert, Rachael Ka'ai-Mahuta, says there are interesting parallels between the growing 'Korean wave' and efforts to change the perception of te reo Māori among teens.
She's written a piece about this for The Conversation website. You can read the te reo version here.
Dr Ka'ai-Mahuta is of Māori (Ngāti Porou, Ngāi Tahu), Hawaiian, and Cook Island Māori descent. She's a senior lecturer at the Auckland University of Technology or AUT, where she is based in Te Ipukarea Research Institute.
