Search for the yellow legged hornet widens

From Afternoons, 1:10 pm on 11 December 2025

It appears the hunt for the yellow legged hornet is going up a notch.

Biosecurity NZ has now doubled its surveillance zone for the insect on Auckland's North Shore

Biosecurity teams will now monitor an 11 km radius across Glenfield and Birkdale as they work to limit the impact the predatory hornet could have on New Zealand’s honey-bee populations.

So far, 34 queen hornets and 22 nests have been destroyed
