Alan Pollard is New Zealand Apples and Pears chief executive. At present he's in Berlin, Germany attending a massive fresh produce trade show called Fruit Logistica. Over sixty thousand people from around the world attend the event. It's a time when exporters get their European export schedules in place for the coming season. Mr Pollard says New Zealand apples are seen as the best in the world and, with poorer harvests from South Africa and Europe, our apples will be well received. However he says there's stiff competition from many countries and it's too early to say what prices will be like. Hot topics at present include quota restrictions and biosecurity.
