In December of 2021 a work by a 700-kilogram pig from South Africa called Pig-casso sold for the equivalent of 45,000 New Zealand dollars. Titled 'Wild and Free'
It was purchased by a German art collector - and was a record price for an artwork created by an animal, eclipsing the amount paid for a painting by Congo the chimpanzee.
But was Pig-casso herself creating the artwork - and are others in the animal kingdom able to make art? Shawn Simpson is a Lecturer in Philosophy at the University of Pittsburgh and joined Culture 101.
