Regional Wrap goes to Analogue Aotearoa in Te Aroha

From Culture 101, 1:30 pm on 19 October 2025

Every week on our Regional Wrap we travel to a different place around the country and, today, nestled in the Waikato below the Kaimai Ranges it's the historic town of Te Aroha.

Known for its springs, a spa was founded here in the 1880s. It's a place know for its colonial heritage as a popular tourist destination, and has reputedly the only natural soda water geyser in the world.

It is also now home to Analogue Aoteaora, New Zealand's first festival dedicated to the art and craft of analogue photography. It's happening in Te Aroha on the 1st and 2nd of November.

On the line is one of the organisers - award-winning portrait and documentary photographer Adrian Cook

On Sunday 2 November, the festival runs alongside Arts Under the Mountain, a visual and performance art street festival. Together, Cook notes, the two events are transforming Te Aroha into a creative hub for the weekend.

Local artist Adrian Worsley - known for his eye-popping sculptures using scrap metal - will also be opening his studio to the public.
