The police say immediate family members of the two people shot dead at a Castlepoint property this morning were in the house at the time of the incident. The Armed Offenders Squad was called to the Tinui property just before five-thirty this morning, following reports of gunfire. Two people were found dead at the scene and their deaths are being treated by the police as suspicious. Wairarapa area commander inspector Scott Miller spoke to Kim Savage and said an occupant of the house was woken by gunshots. He said they got up to locate the source of the noise and discovered the bodies of two people.
