A $3 million Ralph Hotere mural owned by Hamilton City Council has been in storage for more than three years because there is no public space big enough to hang it. The mural is 8.5m wide and 5m high and was created for and housed in the foyer of the Founders Theatre in Hamilton until it was closed over safety concerns in 2016. So it's been stored since then and will remain stored and out of the public view until 2023 when a new threatre is built. Hamilton's general manager of venues, tourism and major events, Sean Murray explains why the decision was made to store the mural.
