A vote to establish a Māori ward in New Plymouth is being applauded by former mayor Andrew Judd.
Yesterday councillors voted to establish a Māori ward, and in doing so, side-stepped community consultation on the issue - for now.
The same decision in 2014 cost former Mayor Andrew Judd his mayoralty after a community-initiated referendum voted it down.
