New RMA doesn't put Māori at the decision-making table
An iwi leader says the proposed replacement for the Resource Management Act doesn't put Māori at the decision-making table.
A provisional draft version, released yesterday, strengthens environmental protection and obligations under the Treaty of Waitangi. That means resource decisions must not just take the Treaty's principles into account (as per the status quo), but would need to give effect to Te Tiriti. Māni Dunlop spoke to the chair of the Freshwater Iwi Leaders group - Rukumoana Schaafhausen who says it's a start but iwi leaders will have a raft of feedback.
