Council, Government urged to help fix facades
Wellington City Council isn't saying how long it's prepared to extend a deadline to strengthen the capital's unreinforced facades and parapets. At least half of the 100 building owners who had faced a deadline of next March to strengthen unreinforced facades and parapets in busy streets were unlikely to make it. Included in their reasons is a reluctance from banks to lend them money to do the work. The council now says it has some flexibility. Earlier councillor Iona Pannett told Morning Report the council is looking at other options too. Neil Cooper is the Acting Chair for the Association of Body Corporates and joins us with his perspective.
