NZers top world in supermarket specials purchases

New research shows that when it comes to hunting for supermarket bargains, New Zealanders are world leaders. Six of every $10 spent at supermarkets goes on items that are on special. That's well ahead of Australia, where four of every $10 is spent on promotions, and Britain where it's three pounds. In France it's just $1.80. Foodstuffs owns the Pak'n'Save and New World chains. Its head of customer experience Emily Blumenthal told RNZ economics correspondent Patrick O'Meara that competition with rival Countdown in the $20 billion supermarket trade is intense, and specials are essential to keep fickle shoppers coming back.
