The Tertiary Education Commission wants to cut government subsidies for certificate and diploma courses in tourism and retail by as much as 30 percent next year.
It says both sectors are contracting because of the pandemic so there will be less demand for newly qualified workers.
Chris Roberts from Tourism Industry Aotearoa told RNZ education correspondent, John Gerritsen, the $6 million cut could spell the end for some courses.
