In Canada, there are calls for the government and the Roman Catholic Church to take concrete action to deal with the continued harms residental schools caused indigenous communities.
Canadians have been reeling after a grusome discovery of 215 Indigenous children's remains at a former residential school.
The schools, which were open from the 1870s to the 1990s, were rife with abuse and more than 4,000 Indigenous children are believed to have died at them, most often from disease.
The children were separated from their families and forced to attend the church-run boarding schools.
Protesters on Sunday toppled a statue of Egerton Ryerson, who helped create the school system.
