It's te wiki o te reo Māori, a weeklong celebration of the language's revival, and revitalisation, a journey largely sparked by the 33,000 signature strong petition delivered to Parliament today 50 years ago.
It called for courses in Māori language and culture to be offered in all New Zealand schools.
As part of the commemorations, this morning a blessing is being held for the opening of the "Tōku reo, tōku ohooho" exhibition at the National Library - Te Puna Mātauranga.
RNZ's Te Pūrongo o te Poutūtanga - Midday Report presenter Māni Dunlop spoke to Susie Ferguson from the ceremony.
