It's been a stormy night for the sodden north, with rain dousing large parts of Auckland, Northland and the Waikato.
Coromandel peninsula soaked up the most rain - about 80 millimetres - while thunderstorms have been particularly prevalent north of Auckland.
A band of rain currently lies over much of Northland, where more thunderstorms are forecast this morning.
