Nau mai ki Te Wiki o te Reo Māori whānau!
What better way to celebrate Māori Language Week than with this beautiful performance by TE KAAHU, the new reo Māori project from alt-pop artist Theia (Waikato-Tainui, Ngāti Tiipaa).
RNZ Music was lucky enough to record this incredible live version of TE KAAHU waiata 'E Hine Ē' as part of our RNZ Music live sessions!
'E Hine Ē' was released as a single in August and will appear alongside singles ‘Rangirara’ and ‘E Taku Huia Kaimanawa’ on TE KAAHU’s full-length album due out later this year.
Theia is joined by Delaney Davidson and Jol Mulholland on guitar, and Hina on vocals.
"Tautokongia ngaa kaitito Maaori me tooku reo rangatira!" says Theia, "Support Māori composers and my chiefly language!"
Shout outs to Unitec Institute of Technology's Te Noho Kotahitanga Marae for hosting us, and to NZ On Air Music for making it all possible!
Kia mau te wehi!
Stay tuned for a beautiful live version of TE KAAHU's 'Rangirara' coming your way soon.
Made possible with support from NZ On Air Music.
