Jo Aleh - first woman to join Team NZ Amercia's Cup defence

From Nine To Noon, 10:05 am today

When Jo Aleh was eight years old, she saw Team New Zealand win the America's Cup, and asked her father if she could learn to sail.

She's come a long, long way from learning to sail in optimists at the Ponsonby Cruising Club in 1995.

Jo Aleh is a two-time women’s 470 Olympic medallist, former World Champion and a former Female World Sailor of the Year, and been in SailGP.

Last year, she co-helmed the first ever Women's America's Cup in Barcelona.

And in October, she was named as the first woman to join the Team New Zealand crew in the America's Cup defence to be held in Naples in 2027.

They're training full time on the Waitemata but Kathryn Ryan caught up with Jo while she was on a break off the water.
