The Secret Life of Video Game Music Composers
From the simplest binary code ditties to huge orchestral scores with complex, interactive layers, video game soundtracks are integral to the action, emotion, and adrenaline levels of the gamer.
We take a look at the early history of computer game music with chip-tune enthusiast Disasteradio, meet British Composer Nitin Sawhney, who has worked on some big-budget games, and Jeramiah Ross, aka Module, a New Zealand Musician who has found his niche creating sound-worlds for mobile video games.

The Dowse Art Museum in Lower Hutt has Arcade: Homegrown Video Games, focussing on the visual art of the New Zealand gaming industry, (10 November to 24 February 2013) - entry is free.

And in mid-December Te Papa in Wellington launches Game Masters, covering 40 years of international gaming history with over 100 playable games, and a live performance from Module – who features in this Musical Chairs – in mid-January.
