Treating drugs as a health centred issue and away from a punitive apprach has been at the heart of the Governments Misuse of Drugs Amendement Bill. It's a shift away from the War on Drugs approach to a health focused one, says the Drug Foundations Ross Bell. The Salvation Army's Lynette Hutson says their addiction services are already at capacity but they are hopeful that they can strengthen both the existing services and develop new approaches to that will respond to family and community needs at an earlier stage.
