Wellington's City Library saved from demolition

From The Panel, 4:40 pm on 4 June 2020

Wellington City Councillors have agreed to save Wellington's central library from demolition and instead spend up to $200m on a refit on the quake-prone building.

The distinctive building designed by Athfield Architects, with its Nikau palm tree columns, has been closed for more than a year now due to being deemed earthquake-prone.

Yesterday city councillors voted to refit and strengthen the existing library rather than build a new one.
