W.I.T.C.H. stands for "We Intend To Cause Havoc," a statement embodied by the band's energetic 72-year-old frontman, Jagari Chandi.
And havoc they caused, of a musical variety, as the festival headliners performed the opening concert of WOMAD 2024 on the Bowl Stage Friday, in New Plymouth. Formed in Zambia during the 70s, the musical icons built a cult following for their signature style of psychedelic blues, now known as the genre Zamrock. In 2023, Witch released Zango, their first new recording in four decades. Here they are in their second chapter as a band, bringing their genre-bending sounds to Aotearoa.
This concert was recorded by Audio Engineer Darryl Stack and Mixed by William Saunders for RNZ Music.
