Equus are an Australian quartet who play oud, turkish bağlama, double bass, percussion and the two stringed horse hair mongolian fiddle known as a Morin khuur. The result is a rare fusion of jazz and middle eastern strings.
Front and centre is talented mongolian Australian throat singer Bukhu Ganburged, a master in the craft. The band's name is an ode to Mongolian horses, which play a vital role in the daily life and traditions of the nomadic people.
Listen as they bring their unique fusion of eastern and Asian sounds to the Dell stage at WOMAD 2024 in Ngamotu, New Plymouth.
This concert was recorded for RNZ by sound engineer Darryl Stack and mixed by Alex Harmer.
