Episode 222 features an interview with the New York based all-female Mariachi band Flor De Toloache who played WOMAD 2020 …As it transpired, after WOMAD last year, the founding member Mireya Ramos and her partner decided to weather the global Pandemic by staying in New Plymouth. Together they embarked on recording songs for a solo album … including a wonderful recording of the song Angelitos Negros which we also include in this program She recently played shows in Auckland and Wellington.
The interview with Flor De Toloache recorded at WOMAD 2020 succinctly demonstrates the motivation in their own belief, overcoming the difficulties in being the only all-female Mariachi band in a male dominated industry and becoming Grammy Award winning ambassadors of Mexican mariachi music.
