Labour has asked the Auditor General, the Ombudsman and the State Services Commission to investigate a roadshow to promote the government's Homestart scheme.
Labour MP Kris Faafoi said documents released under the Official Information Act showed National List MP Parmjeet Parmar wanted to co-host one of the roadshow events to help raise her profile in case of a by-election in the Mt Roskill electorate.
Public money was being spent on the events, and using public money for campaigning runs counter to the rules, he said.
The State Services Commission said it was discussing the issue with Housing New Zealand to better understand what occurred.
