Winter weather has prompted a spate of firewood rustling in Otago.
Police are investigating thefts of firewood around Taieri, particularly south of Mosgiel.
Last week 10 metres of firewood valued at $700 and a $3000 woodsplitter were stolen from the Gladfield Golf Course, after a chain was cut.
Mosgiel Senior Sergeant Al Dickie said police would like to hear from members of the public with any information about suspicious handling and or sales of firewood.
Over recent months, he said sporadic thefts, including diesel and farm equipment, have occurred across Taieri, particularly south of Mosgiel around Momona, Berwick , Outram , Henley and Waihola.
