The most in demand work-place skills are communication, relationship-building and team leadership, as employers redefine so-called soft skills as power skills, according to analysis by a recruitment site.

"As tools and technology continue to reshape the way we work, New Zealand employers are placing a strong emphasis on human skills, or what can be known as power skills," SEEK country manager Rob Clark said.

"Businesses are looking for people who can communicate clearly, build strong relationships, and lead teams with empathy and clarity. In other words, the skills that enable teams to deliver results and make the most of new technology."

Other skills in demand were customer service, team leadership, relationship building and management, Microsoft Office, (data) cleaning, analysis, investigation and project management.

"For Kiwis looking to stand out in the jobs market, there are real opportunities for those who prioritise and develop these in-demand skills, whether through upskilling, training, or hands-on experience."

He said SEEK had created a career advice tool to help job applications sharpen their CV.

"It is also really valuable to make sure your skills are front and centre on your CV and your SEEK Profile so employers can see if you're the right fit for their position."
