Kawhia may be a town of fewer than 500 people, 350 in fact, but it has a vibrant cafe and a huge new hotel is being built in the middle of town. The game of croquet is taking off around the world and a small factory in rural Hawke's Bay is reaping the benefits. Wood Mallets produces polo sticks and croquet mallets and exports them to 50 countries around the globe. The guests this week are preparing for a big week in Wellington with schoolchildren who have only ever met online. The primary students are soon to leave their remote and rural schools for high school and the trip aims to help them make that big step.
