Auckland rental prices continue to set records, while Christchurch rental prices are showing signs of cooling, according to Trade Me's rental property index.
The index shows Auckland had a median weekly rent of $490 in May, up 6.5 percent in the year to May. That compared with a national increase of 6.3 percent.
The national median weekly rent remains unchanged at $420.
Trade Me Property head Nigel Jeffries said Auckland tenants were paying a median rent of $25,480 a year, while the national median was $21,840.
It was easier for renters outside Auckland, with median rents flat or declining in several areas.
