A Takaka woman has been rescued from a cliff face in the Kahurangi National Park after a significant fall.
The 67-year-old was ascending a technical section of the route she was tramping when she fell.
A beacon was activated and the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter located a party of three precariously positioned on a small ledge on the cliff face, about 40m below the point where the woman fell.
The helicopter service said the crew winched a St John paramedic down to them in challenging conditions and steep terrain.
The injured woman was stabilised and all three were winched up to the helicopter.
The woman was taken to Nelson Hospital with a serious leg injury and potential back injuries.
