A Whangarei man has been flown to hospital after a shark attack in Northland.
The man, aged in his 20s, was attacked by the shark while surfing at Baylys Beach, near Dargaville, about 6pm.
He was bitten on the arm and hand, and had to paddle to shore following the attack.
One of the shark's teeth was left embedded in his surf board.
A member of the public then helped him move up the beach, and the man was collected by rescue helicopter from outside a takeaway joint named Sharkys.
Police have now left the beach, and everyone is out of the water.
They are unsure of what type of shark attacked the man.
