Heavy traffic and long delays are expected in several parts of the country this morning as people head off on holiday.
The Transport Agency Waka Kotahi predicts State Highway 1 heading north from Auckland will be congested from 10am through until at least 4pm.

There will also likely be delays heading north from Wellington this morning, with warnings for motorists to watch out for flooding on the urban motorway after heavy rain.
State Highway 1 in Waikato between Tirau and Karapiro could also have heavy traffic today.
In the South Island, traffic is expected to build on State Highway 1 south of both Christchurch and Timaru from about midday.
Meanwhile, two southbound lanes on the Auckland Harbour Bridge are now closed until about Monday 4 January for resurfacing and other maintenance.
