The man charged with murdering a 16-year-old girl in south Auckland last weekend has made a brief appearance in court.
The 23-year-old was arrested this morning and appeared in Manukau District Court this afternoon.
He has been granted interim name suppression and remanded in custody until his next appearance in the High Court at Auckland next month.
The teenage girl's body was found in Manurewa last Saturday afternoon.
Her family is seeking interim suppression of her name through the Coroner's Court.
Earlier today, the police said they were not looking for anyone else in relation to her death.
Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Hayward said the victim was a young girl who was extremely loved by her family and friends, and they were absolutely devastated by what has happened to her.
Hayward said her death had been extremely upsetting to the wider Manurewa community, and while the man's arrest did not change the outcome, he hoped it would offer some degree of reassurance.
